Overview
We are seeking an artist for one of two public art opportunities in Leimert Park, Los Angeles. This program is designed to activate public space through vibrant, culturally rooted artwork that reflects the history, identity, and energy of the neighborhood.
Leimert Park is a historic center of Black art, music, and culture in Los Angeles. Selected artwork should celebrate community identity while enhancing the public streetscape.
Call for Artists:
Leimert Park Public Art Program
Selected artists will be commissioned for one of the following two projects:
Option 1: Utility Box Series
Design and paint 10 traffic signal utility boxes
Locations throughout the Leimert Park area
Artist is responsible for design and installation
All materials will be covered by the Leimert Park Garden Tour
Option 2: Building Wall Mural
Design and paint a large-scale mural on the exterior side wall of a building in Leimert Park
Highly visible, street-facing location
Opportunity for a bold, cohesive visual statement
All materials will be covered by the Leimert Park Garden Tour
Artist Stipend
A $1,500-$3,000 stipend will be provided to the selected artist (depending on the size of the project)
Stipend is intended to cover artist time, design, and execution (materials will be provide by the Leimert Park Garden Tour)

We are looking for work that is:
Rooted in community, culture, and storytelling
Visually engaging from multiple angles
Durable and adaptable to a three-dimensional surface
Respectful of the historical and cultural significance of Leimert Park
Artists are encouraged to draw inspiration from:
Local history and legacy
Music, art, and activism
Neighborhood identity and future vision
